I'm having a bit of a battle with winter. It's not one of my favourite seasons and I'm getting increasingly bored with it. Seeing all of the spring/summer campaigns, the florals and pastels, I just miss warm weather and wearing delicate dresses.

At least I have a pretty knit jumper to throw on over my more flimsy dresses - although to be frank, this jumper isn't the warmest either. Winter 1 - Jess 0.

After reading Pretty Shiny Sparkly's post on photography, this is my first attempt at using a remote to take my outfit pictures. I was clearly so concerned about the remote working that I didn't smile in all but one picture. I'll need to get used to it!

I love the colour of this top and especially love wearing it with bright lipstick and nail polish. I'm also considering shortening this skirt, it's at that weird length where it hits just at the largest part of my calf...it needs sorting.

Bag Lady Goes Cold Turkey

New Year, new challenge. I was trying to think of a good one - to save some money and to challenge myself to give up something I'd miss for a year. Maybe shoes? NOOOOO! As soon as I thought about a year with no new shoes I started having palpitations. Shoes ain't happening, but bags...bags could work.

When I was larger I decided that bags and shoes were a fat girls best friend. It doesn't matter whether you lose or gain weight, shoes and bags will always fit/look right - hence why I have a fair amount. Some of my bags are still in my old wardrobe in my old room at my parents house (at what age does it become unacceptable to 'store' things at your parents?), these are the ones I can squeeze into my flat. ;)

That's 28 bags...

Oh, and I when I was packing them away I found 4 more - oops.

So 2012 is the year of no bag purchases - what am I doing?! All I can think is that Peter is going to laugh his arse off when he reads this...

A Very Mulberry Birthday

I celebrated my birthday yesterday and imagine my surprise when my husband waved this bag in front of my face. :)

My Oyster card has never been so stylish.

This wasn't the only leather gift I received, my sisters also bought me a coin purse and zip clutch from Bimba and Lola. The leather is beautiful and I love the midnight blue colour.

I was thoroughly spoilt!

My only attempt at DIY fashion was spray painting my black Doc Martins gold and writing my favourite band names on them in tippex when I was 13. 19 years later, my skills haven't developed in this area but I still love to see what people with more creative genes are doing...

Followers and readers - I've had a "reimagining" of my blog and its title.

When I started my blog in 2009, I was selling vintage clothing and my lifestyle was tiptoeing around the edges of the vintage domain. However, as time has gone on I have closed down my vintage shop on eBay, and now my style (and lifestyle) is very much a mish mash. I don't want to mislead or confuse my followers and readers by holding onto this title when it doesn't really reflect the majority of my content.

My new blog title is a play on a Prince song, Shockadelica. I hope what follows is a clearer representation of myself, my style and my interests.

For now, you'll still be able to view the blog via the original blogspot web address, but for ease you can also favourite the new web address http://www.styladelica.com/

New year, new wardrobe, new year's ~~resolutions~~ to-do list.

Wear more colour - 90% of my wardrobe is black. I try to accessorise with colour but very rarely wear a block colour.

Accessorise more - or maybe that should read, accessorise better.

And lastly, Love everything in my wardrobe - this is a really important one for me. Too many times I've bought things that end up wasting away in my wardrobe (mainly because I've bought on impulse and not thought about what it will go with).

January Sales

January? In all honesty I bought most of these items between Christmas and New Year. As you know, in a bid to keep us spending, most shops are now starting their sales on Boxing Day (26th December) or even earlier in some cases - needless to say it seems to be working for me.

Here's what I picked up...

I went into Topshop not expecting to find anything I liked. In fact, I was trying to remember the last time I bought clothes from Topshop and think it was probably over a year ago (in the sale!). I was lucky to find these two jumpers which are perfect for work to evening.

This sheer shirt had my name written all over it. One of my aims this year is to inject more colour into my wardrobe. I have A LOT of black and I really need to mix it up. This magenta shirt will look great on a night our with skinny jeans and a chunky necklace (see below) but it's also good for work (even if I don't buy something specifically for work, it has to be able to end up in my workwear rotation eventually as most of my clothes do).

The last piece I picked up in Topshop was this chunky knit cardigan which just looks and feels so snuggly. I'm hoping to wear it over a floral dress with a belt to cinch it in. (Peter thinks I look like a cricket umpire in it).

Anyone who follows me on twitter would also have seen my tweet about this tweed blazer from River Island. My work dress code is business casual so doesn't usually require me to wear a jacket, but when we're running an event I like to look smart. I think this makes a change to the usual black blazer.

I also popped into Accessorize and had a rifle through their necklaces, I got a metal choker which I'd had my eye on for a while and this feather detail necklace which looks great over a t-shirt.

What did you pick up in the sale? Do you like sale shopping or do you tend to avoid it like the plague?

2011: The Highlights

I thought I'd let pictures do most of the talking - I've had a fantastic year and am very excited about 2012 and the new challenges and opportunities it's going to bring.

Fascinator making with The Thrifty Stitcher in January, winning these FitFlop mukluks in February (I never win anything!), and adding to my Elvgren collection in March.

A day trip to Le Touquet in April, getting caught up in Kate fever in May, and taking part in my first 30 for 30 Challenge in June

Seeing Prince at the Hop Farm Festival in July, spending a month in the US for our belated honeymoon in August, and visiting Goodwood Revival in September.

Dressing up for Halloween in October, completing my second 30 for 30 Challenge in November and family time at Winchester Christmas market in December.

This year I've also ticked off some personal goals, including going back to college part-time to complete a professional qualification, doing an 855 ft sky jump in Las Vegas and volunteering to help job seekers in Central London (I was pleased to hear recently that a few are now in employment).

However, none of that compares to what my husband has done this year. Peter, has been writing a song a week in 2011 and is nearly across the finish line. With only two more songs to go (which will be posted by midnight tonight) he's already surpassed his fundraising target for the year. I'm so unbelievably proud of him and really want to get him a few more quid in that pot for Parkinsons UK.

Christmas Haul

I was extremely spoilt this year as you can see and there was definitely a wintry theme to my Christmas List. I had two Christmases this year as my family and I exchanged gifts the week before Christmas, and Peter and I spent Christmas in Hartlepool with his parents and brother. It was very relaxing but I don't think I stopped eating from Christmas Eve until yesterday when we got back to London.

So, on the gifts. After suffering through last winter with a Primark puffa jacket and my Joules wellies (with three pairs of socks on), I'll be taking the cold in my stride now with this Berghaus down jacket and North Face snow boots. My husband also bought me some UGG ear muffs which are amazing! I also got a good make up haul - Benefit, Nars and Dermalogica featuring heavily this year.

I think my favourite present is probably my Kindle. It was a surprise present so that was all the more exciting. I can see it being an expensive habit as I've already bought a few books and gone through one since Christmas Day. It's so convenient and although I'll still read 'proper' books at home, this will prevent me from having to commute with books that give me back ache - I'm looking at you 'The Crimson Petal And The White'.

Beauty Review: Benefit - They're Real

WARNING: If you don't like pictures of eyes look away now...

I'd heard that the new Benefit mascara was good (it was actually Beth at BJonesStyle proclaiming it was the best mascara she'd ever used that piqued my interest), but I had no idea it was this good. Before switching to They're Real I was using a useless Max Factor mascara which I hated from the first use (but because I don't like to waste money I stuck with it). I was so pleased when it finally ran out and I could buy a new one.

Before - no mascara (or basically what they looked like with that awful Max Factor mascara).

After - Hello lashes! I'm very happy with the result.

Although the mascara isn't advertised as waterproof it's good in the rain and doesn't smudge - consequently it does take a bit longer to get it off with my usual cleansing routine (but then I don't use separate eye make up remover). The brush as a round tip with a brush so you can get into the corners and really open up the eye.

Recipe: Snow-flecked Brownies

I had fun making brownies for a friends Christmas party on Saturday afternoon and thought I'd share the recipe and photos with you. It's a Nigella recipe that I've adapted.

Break up the chocolate

Add the butter

Mix the egs with the sugar...

...try not to feel too guilty!

Stir in the egg/sugar mix...

...and add the flour

Throw in some white chocolate pieces...

... or whatever else you fancy

Transfer to a brownie tin

Spread the mixture evenly

And, as Nigella says, apply to face!

Recipe
175 g quality dark chocolate
175 g unsalted butter (room temp)
0.5 tablespoon vanilla essence
3 eggs
175 g sugar
110 g flour
pinch of salt
100g white chocolate (buttons or a block cut into chunks)

- Pre heat the oven to 180C/Gas Mark 4/350F
- Melt the butter and chocolate together, you can do this in the microwave of in a pan on a low heat
- Meanwhile, beat the sugar, eggs and vanilla together
- Once the choc and butter is melted and cooled, beat in the egg/sugar mixture, then add you flour (with the pinch of salt).
- Lastly, add the white chocolate and anything else you might want in there. In this batch I experimented with honeycomb but it melted in the oven, I've used fudge and nuts before so whatever takes your fancy.
- Tip into a brownie pan and bung in the oven for 25 mins (maybe start checking at 20 mins).

You want the top to be dry but the middle to be gooey. I use a toothpick or kebab stick to check the middle isn't too gooey, you want it to come out with mixture on it, but not completely under done. (I hope that makes sense!).

You may recall me mentioning in my last eBay haul post that I was looking for a black leather skirt like Jennine from The Coveted. Well I've finally found one that's as near as dammit to her beautiful leather skirt by Raoul, but without the £200 price tag!

I got this one from eBay for £23 (incl P&P). It's a GAP leather skirt which is really comfortable to wear and the perfect A line cut I was looking for. I'm debating about the length as this was always going to be a problem (with me being 5ft3in) so I may end up taking it up slightly. Either way, I have a feeling I'm going to be living in this through the autumn and winter.

Winchester Christmas Market

Here are some snaps from my trip to Winchester Christmas Market last Sunday.

It was freezing cold on Sunday so we wrapped up, ready for a walk around the Christmas market which is set up in the grounds of Winchester Cathedral. It was really beautiful and there were various stalls selling everything from Christmas decorations to silver jewellery to handbags. As you can imagine, I was in my element.

To top it off there was a vintage market in the high st which happens on the first Sunday of each month. There were lots of lovely preloved clothes and vintage homeware.

I went to a friend's for Christmas drinks at the weekend and decided to wear something a little colourful and festive. The purple "skirt" is actually a dress I picked up from ASOS a few years ago and I thought it went well the sparkly knit jumper I picked up at H&M last week. I've been wearing this with everything recently, it's so nice to just throw on. I like the way it dressed down this dress but it dresses up jeans. (Sorry for the poor quality pics, these are taken on my iPhone).

The Back Up Plan

I have discovered that I have a back up outfit for occasions like weddings, work do's and Christmas parties. I bought this dress a few years ago from H&M. I think it was £25 or thereabouts.

I like the tulip cut of the skirt and the fact that it's not too short, something even me at 5ft 3in struggles with as the high street makes hemlines on LBD's shorter and shorter! Plus the neckline is flattering. I tend to mix up the accessories each time I wear it.

The most recent outing was to a friends wedding, luckily the wedding was later in the day so I could get away with the black dress. I dressed it up with a leopard print belt and matching heels.

The Bex paradise dress from French Connection. I've been looking for a long sleeved dress but wanted something a bit different. I always loved this dress but didn't fancy spending £200 on it in store. I picked this up on eBay for a steal.

Those of you who follow me on Twitter will have seen these already - an eBay alert for "prada shoes size 6" turned into an impulse purchase that I don't regret one bit. These sandals are so comfortable, the heel is very high but the platform evens it out. I got them for less than a quarter of their original retail price and they are in great condition. Another eBay success!!

I'm still searching for the perfect black leather a-line midi skirt. I love the one that Jennine from The Coveted has but I'm looking for a vintage version (to fit my budget mainly). I've been outbid on a couple, but I've still got my eyes peeled!

Layering

I don't really have a specific summer or winter wardrobe, in the UK it isn't unusual to get a fine day in autumn/winter and a cooler day in the summer so it's all about layering. Plus for anyone who commutes on a hot train or who has a cold journey to work followed only to enter an over heated office, this post is for you!

This season I've taken a number of my work dresses that I bought in the summer and layered a long sleeved t-shirt underneath.

Around day nine I had a moment of clarity and binned these trousers. After seeing them in a picture, I thought they were completely unflattering and so took action. This means I'm down to 29 items. To make it back up to 30 again, I'd like to introduce this snake print blouse from H&M.

I'm also using this opportunity to do my allotted swap, I haven't yet worn this skirt from Monsoon and as the weather is getting ever cooler I'm changing it for this wool skirt from French Connection.

Friday night I managed to sprain my ankle in a moment of drunken highjinks (which has meant hobbling around for the rest of the weekend), Saturday I went to Foxhills Spa for a day of pampering which was absolutely amazing, topped off with one of my favourite events of the year - the Halloween bash at a local pub. This is not part of my 30 for 30 but here you go anyway.

I am so glad I started doing these outfit posts, now I can see when an item of clothing looks good and when it really does not. These trousers are a prime example! I took more pictures of this outfit but these were the blog standard ones. The trousers are not at all flattering on me, especially from the back - they honestly have no shape to them and make me look so wide! As such, they are now in the bin. Now then, who here has the same problem as me and doesn't know what to do with the mountains of £5 off vouchers accumulating in your purse? The answer is - spend an additional £2.50 and get No7 nail polish! I bought Blackberry a while ago and have just tried it. I love the rich colour after two coats.

Next time I have a voucher I think I'm going to go for Dollar. It's goldy teal colour, like a darker green version of Chanel's Peridot (but at a fraction of the price).

The one negative is that the brush is on the wide side so might take some getting used to for some people who are used to a slimmer brush. These are the rest of the colours available.

30 for 30 Autumn Edition - The Items

So, 30 for 30 is back. 30 items remixed into 30 outfits while on a spending ban for 30 days. My take on this challenge last time varied slightly from Kendi's original rules as I allowed myself one 'swap' which was with an item I hadn't worn on the challenge. I'm keeping this option this time.

Last time I also failed miserably on the spending ban element of the challenge but this is probably the most important. The point of the challenge, for me anyway, was that it highlighted what I had and what I didn't have in my wardrobe. Ideally, once I'm at the end of the challenge I can use the money saved from not purchasing items that month to 'fill the gaps'. So basically spend my money in a sensible way...unheard of!

As last time, I've sent up my items in a spreadsheet and am attempting to pre-plan my outfits so I don't accidentally wear the same thing twice, also it makes it easier getting ready each morning (and the geek in me loves it!). ;)

My lack of blogging is directly related to the amount of work I have on in my day job. Sorry I've been quiet lately but I'm excited to let you know that you won't have to wait long for a mountain of posts as I embark on my second 30 for 30. I was originally going to start this on Monday, however, we're having a heatwave here in England so none of my choices are really going to work with this weather.

I'm aiming to start on Monday 10th October. If there are any bloggers who are also planning a 30 for 30, let me know so we can keep up with each others progress. :)

Goodwood Revival

Here are some snaps I took yesterday at Goodwood Revival. We had an early start to get down there with enough time to park and get some breakfast before the first races. We had a great day people watching and seeing some great motor and air displays. It was really warm when the sun came out although we did get caught in the rain a few times. It was great to see that 99% of the people who went had made an effort to dress for the occassion.

Monday Musings: My Inspiration

'Inspiration' sounds a bit lofty really - what I really mean is ideas. Don't get me wrong, I love pouring over InStyle and Elle every month - and these magazines do give me inspiration, but I don't want to see next seasons looks on models who are dressed head to toe in atzec prints or wearing 5 inch heels (which I have never owned, and never will!) or sporting shocking pink dip dyed hair (which as much as I'd like to, I wouldn't be able to convince work that this was 'business casual') - rightly or wrongly, my style Monday - Friday, 9 - 5 is partially defined by my job, but I suppose that's another topic for another day.

See it...

So, where do I get my inspiration? Well, it's not that deep really. I don't channel Coco Chanel or Yves Saint Laurent...I look to normal people. Some of them may be normal people with fabulous wardrobes, but they are still wearing these outfits everyday in the real world and looking fantastic. They are people on the street; my friends; personal style blogs (see the 'What I'm reading' section); the women in my family - my sisters, mum, grandmother, aunts, cousins - they all have their unique style and sometimes I'll look at them and think, Wow!

Note it...

If I see something I like, I'll note it down - the notes function on my iPhone is full of outfit ideas, and items that I want to hunt for on my next trawl around a vintage fair or eBay. However, if at all possible, I'd rather have a picture of something. I'm a much more visual person when it comes to planning outfits and considering purchases. If I see something I like in a shop, I have to visualise what it would go with in my wardrobe (and therefore, whether I can justify the purchase!). I'm a bit late to the party, but I've started using Polyvore to create outfits and play around with pieces I might always have (without having to raid my wardrobe). The beauty of technology!

Do it...

Interpreting a look for myself can be difficult, especially if I see something that I think looks amazing on someone else but I don't have the guts to carry off myself. For example, most of my wardrobe is neutral, it's black, white, cream, grey. I want to add splashes of colour but for me I need to start small, so I might go for a shoe or bag to start with and then get braver. I recently purchased a pair of bright blue trousers from ASOS - I loved them but sent them back almost immediately because I didn't think I could see myself wearing them. Basically, I was being too sensible. I didn't know there was such a thing as Returners Regret, but after thinking about potential outfits for a few days (and some gentle encouragement from my husband) I've decided to re-buy them. I love the colour and I think they'll look great on nights out in the autumn. Go me!

I know my limits though. My body shape just isn't right for those body con dresses so I stick to what's flattering for me.

Autumn? Is that you?

Here in London this week it feels distinctly autumnal, which is a real bitch as I haven't had a chance to think about what's on my wish list for the coming months. However, yesterday I'd not even been out of the 108 degree heat of Las Vegas for 48 hours and I purchased my winter coat. This was a strategic decision. I love the colour and cut of this coat, so I thought I'd buy it in August (when surely no other bugger is buying winter coats) rather than wait til it cools down only to find out it's sold out (which is what happened last year). Yay for being organised!

Viva Las Vegas - Part Two

This trip has been amazing. We went to see David Copperfield on Thursday evening at the MGM Grand. Firstly, the theatre was small so we were able to see the magic up close and personal. Secondly, for his encore, he made 13 audience members disappear live on stage. I was lucky enough to be one of those 13! I have been sworn to secrecy on the ins and outs of the trick by the man himself so don't bother asking! ;)

So, our second trip to the Fashion Show Mall looks a bit like this.

Viva Las Vegas - Part One

Vegas, how I've missed you!

I could honestly live in this city. With the fabulous weather, 24 hour entertainment and amazing shopping...I think the daily routine of sitting by the pool with a beer might also have something to do with it!

I did some damage at the outlet earlier this week. Especially in the Levis and For All Mankind stores. It really did seem rude not to, especially as the jeans were so much cheaper than home. I haven't bought a pair of Levis for a looong time but they have different cuts now which seem to depend on the curve of your arse. I'm a Demi curve apparently. They fit really nicely so I bought a pair of black skinnies and some blue bootcut jeans (which had great button pocket detail on the back). I also bought some FAMK blue skinnies. I wasn't the only one though, Peter is now a FAMK convert. :D

While at the outlets I also found this beautiful bib necklace in J Crew. It's been a while since I visited this store. Probably about 5/6 years actually so I was surprised at how much it had changed, it's very Banana Republic now as opposed to the Old Navy style shop it was before. Anyway, here's the necklace.

We also poked our heads into the Fashion Show Mall on the strip (which is a lot bigger than I remembered) and visited the mammoth Forever 21 store - which is slowly becoming my favourite shop (so I'm pleased that the one in London is now open!). I bought yet more blouses, a fun cocktail ring and a MAC eyeshadow I'd run out of. Incidentally, MAC isn't all that much cheaper over here - a single eyeshadow was $15...

With it being the last stop on our trip, plus the fact that our new purchases are for cooler weather than this, I've resorted to remixing some of my cleaner clothes. Like my ASOS pencil skirt which I wore as a dress the other night.

After a drive through Carson City and Fallon, we got on the 95 to Vegas. Arriving at night was amazing! We could see the glow of the city from 70 miles away behind the mountains and as the city came into view we couldn't stop grinning!

We're stopping at the Stratosphere at the north end of the strip for a few nights before ending our 4 week trip on a supreme high in a suite at the Mandalay Bay.

Winter in August in San Francisco

Ok, so it's not that bad. I'm writing this from a cafe in Sausalito where we've just had a particularly chilly journey across the Golden Gate Bridge.

SF is great fun, but let's start with the shopping. I'm ashamed to say that Peter is beating me hands down in the purchase stakes. But I did go a bit mad for shirts.

Black shirt and olive green tunic from Forever21 and a gorgeous white shirt with bronze button detail from Anthropologie.

In terms of the shopping, our hotel is near both Union Square and Westfield shopping mall (on Market St). Doesn't this beauty dept at Bloomingdales in Westfield look inviting?

We also headed to Haight St to see what the selection of vintage shops were like and spotted this great mural.

This city itself is packed with great sights and things to do. We actually hadn't booked tickets for Alcatraz (idiots, I know!) and they were sold out for the next two weeks but we were lucky enough to get two from a tour company at Fisherman's Wharf. We also had the obligatory bowl of chowder while we were there.

Down In The Bayou

It's hot and humid here in Nawlins. This makes dressing in anything other than shorts and vests very difficult!

We're lucky enough to be staying in a friends house for the time that we're here which means we can make use of their pool. Their house is also a block from the trolley so it takes no time to get downtown. This is what we've been up to...

You'll notice the absence of pics of Bourbon St. Honestly, it reminded me of Leicester Square on a Saturday night. A lot of neon and strip clubs. I much preferred Royal St (below) with it's antique signage and art galleries, and Frenchman St for the Jazz (of course!).

Getting caught in the rain isn't such a bad thing when it's 90 degrees.

Heading to San Francisco tomorrow which means two things. Cooler weather, and we're half way through our trip!

Prince country aka Minneapolis

A 6 hour drive from Racine, WI (where we stopped for the night) and we arrived in Minneapolis. We're only here for two nights - just enough time to see some Prince sights and recharge our batteries before heading to Memphis. Highlights of Minneapolis were seeing Paisley Park and First Avenue (where Purple Rain was filmed). We also visited the Mall of America which I believe is the largest indoor mall in the states (it even has an amusement park inside!)

Another highlight was the Bettie Page store - gorgeous dresses, including this beauty!

We also went to Hell's Kitchen on a recommendation from Steph of Girly Movie Mondays and I'm so glad we fitted it into our trip! This restaurant is known for it's breakfasts so I had to have breakfast for dinner. I went for huevos rancheros - they were amazing!

The Vintage Huntress does Chicago

Hello from the windy city! We're enjoying every minute of our trip so far (we're on day 4) and it's our last day in Chicago today *sniff*. High points for me have been the Tastebud Tour and a late evening trip to Kingston Mines. And of course, the shopping...

Our plan was so do as little shopping as possible in Chicago as we're nearly at our weight limit (case wise), but I caved. My haul so far includes; new Cons, a sheer leopard print shirt (Forever21) and a small Sephora haul including some new brushes and a handy roll on of my favourite Stella perfume.

As for what I've been wearing - as little as possible as it's so humid here! Here's a pic of me waiting for the 'L'. I love this ASOS jersey pencil skirt, I've been living in both this and the black one.

PS So far I've not managed to finish a meal. American portions are insane!

The time has finally arrived. USA here we come! We're flying out on Monday to Chicago and won't be back for a whole month.

This weeks 6-List is my wishlist for my US trip. I'm looking forward to seeing these items in the flesh!

Hair: Easy Up-Do

Take one doughnut ring (not the edible kind!), like this one from Boots, and some hair pins.

1. Put your hair in a ponytail using a hairband.

2. Put the doughnut on the pony tail and bend over so that your hair falls over it. Once you're happy that your hair is covering the entire doughnut, secure it with another hairband.

3. Now you'll need the hair pins. Take sections of hair that are hanging over the bun and wrap them around it (I like to twist them as it makes the style more interesting). Then secure each section with a pin.

Follow step 3 until all of the sections are secured.

And hey presto!

For this style I've bouffed up my fringe so it's a bit more interesting than just having a high bun - play around and find a style you like!

Sew easy!

While writing a clothes list for my forthcoming trip to the US, I came across this bandeau dress I bought during an ASOS sale a while ago. I think I've had it for about 6 months and never worn it. I love the print and the style, but sadly the top gapes a bit so it has been relegated to the back of the wardrobe.
I tried it on again a few days ago and had an idea...

This is the dress

I took a length of ribbon (which was a belt in another dress which I don't use), and cut that in half. Then I sewed the ends so they don't fray. (As you can tell throughout these pictures, my sewing is a bit crude, but I hope it does the trick!)

Once the ribbon was sewed and pressed, I pinned it to the dress and checked it was in the right position before sewing each one to the dress (taking care to sew it so that the thread doesn't show through on the outside of the dress).

And this is the result...

Voila! The dress no longer gapes. The straps aren't holding the dress up as such but rather they are flattening the top of the dress against my chest. I'm really pleased with it!

My top five outfits from the challenge

#5 - This is a staple outfit for me, but after riffling through my old jewellery box (which is actually a shoe box), I think this black necklace finishes the outfit off nicely.

#4 - I was really chuffed with this outfit (apart from the fact that the dress needed ironing!). I dug out this scarf and was tieing it in different ways and eventually settled on using it as a belt. I think it works and I'll definitely wear this combo again.

#3 - Another staple outfit. I love this dress although I think it's a bit on the short side, hence wearing it with leggings.

#2 - This is one of those outfits that I never would have put together before the challenge, but I now love. It's so simple. The bandeau dress is one of my favourites and I love the tan accessories.

#1 - It had to be this one. I was so pleased with how this outfit came together, I did pick it specifically ahead of the 30 for 30 but I didn't know how I was going to have my hair, or which accessories I was going to go with so I was pleased with the end result.

Challenge: A call to take part in a contest or competition, esp. a duel

I like this definition. I think I definitely challenged my creativity to a duel. I'm not sure who won...

Honestly, there were times where this challenge was no fun at all, but I think I've learned a lot from it. Mainly about what I like and what has no business being in my wardrobe.

To plan or not to plan...

I started out by planning my outfits for the 30 days, something which I managed to follow up until about day 10/12 then I started to get bored. I found the choices I'd made at the beginning predictable and safe, so I started trying to mix it up. I discovered that accessorising is a good way to make a new outfit, whether that's with a bag, scarf or jewellery. I even dug out a scarf I hadn't worn for about 7 years and some earrings I hadn't worn for about 5 years.

Also, I have a confession - I found the spending ban impossible. I've bought a few things this month and am suitably ashamed.

I'm definitely up for another 30 for 30 come Autumn. Now I know what's involved and how tough it is I think I can give it a better shot (with the spending ban next time).

PS I have no idea why some of my pics have numbers and some don't. There must be a technical hitch with photobucket. RAH!

Thanks to those of you who have been keeping up with my progress over the last month and spurring me on. Especially to Peter, who had to put up with me either early in the morning or when he'd finished work with what started out as me saying, "Would you mind taking a picture of me for my blog?", and graduated to, "Picture!".

I really like this outfit but I honestly wouldn't have worn it before. I know it looks quite simple but the blouse has been fashioned into a jacket by folding one of the sides back and fixing with a flower pin. Some days I love what this challenge has literally forced me to wear!

Oh Em Gee, Prince was AMAZING yesterday! Here are some pictures...we got a good spot early on and just camped out for the day. It was a great atmosphere, and a fantastic performance by Prince and his band.

30 for 30 challenge: Item Swap

Strictly speaking this is against the rules but I'm struggling to create outfits that I want to wear out of my 30 items.

There is one item in my 30 for 30 I haven't worn, the maxi dress. This is the only maxi dress I own and while I do really like it, it's really not something that's good for everyday wear for me. I really have to be in the mood to wear it. So, with this in mind I've decided to swap it for another piece in my wardrobe which I hope will be more versatile.

This cream dress is from River Island. It's great for summer evenings out and I'm planning on wearing it under a longer black skirt for work.

30 for 30 Challenge: Day Nineteen

One of the perks of working in learning and development is that I get to go on taster workshops run by potential providers. Today's workshop, run by Neil Mullarkey, was around improvisation so I thought about how I could incorporate that into my outfit for today (and hopefully my remaining outfits in this challenge).

Today I am wearing: Dress* (ASOS), Shoes (Madewell), Scarf (Topshop - I think...) , Faux pearls (H+M)

*which I now realise needed ironing!

The scarf I've used as a belt today, I've had in my wardrobe for around 8 years and have probably worn 4 times. I'm amazed that it's taken this challenge to dig it out!

I'm not going to lie, 30 for 30 is proving to be tough! The first 8-10 days were a breeze; not having to worry about what to wear as I had a plan was good, but the outfits I'd planned for these last 10 or so days really don't inspire me. Maybe because I've been staring at them on a spreadsheet for over 2 weeks? One thing is certainly clear to me, I don't think I need more clothes at the moment, but I think I do need to think about what accessories I need and being braver with that. I'd love to know if other 30 for 30 remixers are feeling the same as me.
